Biography of Portico Quartet
Portico Quartet are four young musicians based in London. Nick Mulvey, Duncan Bellamy, Jack Wyllie and Milo Fitzpatrick met in 2005 as they began studying in London.
Comprised of soprano Saxophone (Wyllie), double bass (Fitzpatrick), Hang and percussion (Mulvey), and drums and Hang (Bellamy), their sound is truly unique, exciting and fresh.
Forging contemporary jazz with modern classical tendencies (think Steve Reich and Philip Glass) along with many other genres, they have created an inimitable sound that has been compared to the work of Ben Allison, Esbjorn Svennson Trio and The Cinematic Orchestra amongst many others.
Portico Quartet has recently recorded a session broadcast on Gilles Peterson's Radio 1 Worldwide show, Radio 4 Front Row and a live number for Robert Elms' feature on the 2007 London Jazz Festival on Radio London.
