Biography of Tony Lee
Tony Lee was one of the busiest pianists in the London jazz scene for the past 40 years. He was born in the East End of London. Largely self-taught, he has played with many artists including Sonny Stitt, Red Holloway, Barney Kessel, the Best of British with Jack Parnell, Kenny Baker and Billy Mitchell. His wide range of styles and the great humour in his work make Tony the ultimate club musician.
Ronnie Verrel is another great favourite in London. He started out in 1952 with the Ted Heath Orchestra. He has since played with many great stars and bands including the Jack Parnell Orchestra, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield.
Tony Archer has been playing with the Tony Lee Trio for the past four decades. He has also worked with John Dankworth, Harold Macnair, Roy Budd, Eddie Thompson, Don Rendell, Graham Bond, Dick Morrisey and Lennie Best. He supported Natalie Cole on her 1992 UK tour and has frequently backed British front liners and visiting American jazz stars including Sonny Stitt, Buddy Tate, Scott Hamilton and Kenny Davern.
