Biography of Andrew Colman
The Andrew Colman Quartet brings together four dynamic musicians from across the country. They have been playing collectively for over 6 years, performed at many of the countries top jazz venues and recently enjoyed a successful Arts Council/Jazz Services UK tour in front of packed audiences. They are currently promoting the brand new album, ‘I Remember You’ (33 Jazz Records) released November 2009.
Andrew Colman began playing the trumpet at 11 years old, going on to play in the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra. He studied with Richard Iles at Leeds College of Music, where he played alongside visiting jazz artists including Hal Galper, Randy Brecker and, one of his major influences, Conte Candoli; he also spent a week in Holland playing with an all-star Dutch big band and flugelhorn player Ack Van Rooyen.
He graduated in 1999 and the same year he won the Royal & Sun Alliance Young Jazz Musician of the Year award.
In addition to leading his Quartet, Andrew also works with his brother Mat as the Colman Brothers writing music for film and DJs on the jazz/club scene. Current international 7” releases (WahWah45’s) are ‘El Niño’, ‘She Who Dares’ and ‘Sem Amor’.
