~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I am impressed" said Malcom Laycock, Radio 2 - full review below ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kevin’s much anticipated new album ‘Bring The House Down’ not only marks his debut as an imaginative songwriter but also showcases the marvellous renditions of American Songbook standards he’s long been known for. Aficionados will appreciate Kevin's original compositions and adore his interpretations of the standards. Added to the mix are two tracks that were originally released as classic Pop/MOR by Sting and Eric Clapton, and given a new arrangement for the album by Kevin. The superb musicianship is provided by Kevin’s regular band of highly-regarded musicians.
Musicians Simon Bates - Saxophone/Clarinet (tracks 2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,14) Paul ‘Harry’ Harris - Piano Paul Morgan - Double Bass (tracks 1,4,5,12,13) Gavin Scott - Double Bass (tracks 2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,14) Mike Smith - Drums (tracks 2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,14) Bobby Worth - Drums (tracks 1,4,5,12,13)
02/04/2009 Malcolm Laycock, Radio 2, Big Band presenter | “I enjoyed the album very much. Of the ‘standards’ I particularly liked your relaxed style on “Gee Baby, Aint I Good To You”. But above all it’s refreshing to have a sprinkling of own material - and may I flatter you on its quality, both the music and the lyrics. "I Can't Take Any More Of You" is a great intimate 'supper club' song. "Bring The House Down" made me grin. And "There Must Be Something Out There" swings along at a natural pace with some clever lyrics too. I am impressed. Add in great support (well, it would be, wouldn't it?) from Simon, the Pauls, Gavin, Mike and Bobby and a great sound balance and the CD's very strong to my ears” Malcolm Laycock, Radio 2 |
