Biography of No Square
"No Square" was founded in July 1994 with Guillaume Perret on Saxophone, Stefan Aeby on Piano, André Hahne on Bass and Yannick Oppliger on Drums. The musiciens have created individually and collectively the original pieces found in their seven albums: "The Fly" (1996), "Green Apples" (1997), "Empreintes" (1999), "La Case à Chocs" (2000) and "C'est où Doregon" (2002), "Double Album Studio & Live" (2005) and "Le Pendu" (2008). "No Square" as performed in numerous Clubs and Festivals.Over the last years they have toured in Germany playing in (Hambourg –Brême – Berlin –Dresden – Leipzig – Essen – Wuppertal – Frankfurt – München) Invited by Chucho Valdes at the international Havana Jazz Festival in 1998, the quartet represented Switzerland in Cuba and gave 3 concerts 17-18-19 December. « No Square » also played in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in March 2000, at the Cully Jazz Festival (Switzerland) in March 2001, in Punta del Este (Uruguay) and Buenos Aires in April 2001, at the Jazz Festival du Soleil (Switzerland) in June 2001, at the Mlode Kino Europjski festival in Torun (Poland) in April 2003, at the Schaffhausen Jazz Festival (Switzerland) in Mai 2003, at the Jazz Festival Hutwill ( Nov 03), at the Rhino Jazz Festival Rives de Gier (France) in October 2004 at the Jazz Festival Nancy Jazz Pulsations (France) in October 2004, inThaïland at the Pataya jazz Festival in November 2004, in Buenos Aires (Argentina) Santiago (Chile) in october 2005, at the Jazz Festivals from Neubrandenburg, de Stuttgart et Kempten in spring 2007 and at Jazz Festivals from Rotterdam, d’Annecy et de Nordhausen in Autumn 2007
No Square has produced with the Collectif Fa7 the music of « Roestigraben Box » (2003) (www.roestigraben-box.ch), the music of « Bitzius », a play in memory of Jeremias Gotthelf, the music of the play « La Voix Humaine » from Jean Cocteau in July 2004 and the music of “Les Jeux sont Faits!” in July 2006. The Collectif Fa7 in collaboration with “La Compagnie des voyages extraordinaires”are producing the new creation for september 2008 “RAME” at the Vidy Theater in Lausanne
