Biography of John Turville

John Turville is considered one of the most talented and versatile pianists in the UK, a ‘major new figure on the British jazz scene’ (Ian Mann). After studying at Cambridge and the Guildhall, he has developed a strong profile within the jazz, classical and tango worlds. The winner of multiple awards, including ‘Best Album’ in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2011, ‘Best Instrumentalist' in the 2010 London Jazz Awards, and the Promoter’s Choice Award 2009, he has also recorded and performed throughout the UK and Europe with Tim Garland, Gilad Atzmon, Natacha Atlas, US3, Sarah Gillespie, Sola Akingbola (Jamiroquai), Transtango, the London Tango Orchestra and the Frank Griffith Big Band .John founded, writes for and directs the E17 large ensemble, and has been recently commissioned to write works for the Solstice Quartet and Transtango.
