Having thought about doing this for several years, and featuring on countless albums by other people, I have finally decided to take the plunge. Inspired by a recent journey through Africa and generally by having a quarter life crisis, I started writing late in 2008. Really what I wanted to achieve more than anything else was a document of where I am both musically and personally.
The result has been quite an eclectic one, featuring the talents of Jay Irving on drums and JJ Rio on electric bass augmented with guest musicians from every genre, and myself on keyboards and saxophones. Ginger Tunes is really fantastic; I’m enjoying it enormously! I love Mikes ability to play so lyrically and solidly without needing to become complex and self indulgent. The writing here straightforward yet imaginative and gripping!
