Biography of Renzo Murrone

"Renzo has a gorgeous warmth to his voice and a bold musicianly flair in his approach. His voice is a 'real' instrument" A singer with a distinctive vocal approach, whose musical style is infused with jazz, blues, soul and contemporary sounds.
From Taranto, southern Italy, he sang as a child in the local church choir and was often seen performing with folk
and pop groups throughout his teenage years, but it was not until he relocated to Rome, that he could start training
in music and drama. During his ealy twenties he sang with polyphonic choirs, fronted a soul band and performed in music theatre. At the same time he discovered the music of the great jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald, Mel torme`, Sarah Vaughn, which soon led him to Mark Murphy, Shirley Horn, Jon Hendricks, Jimmy Scott.
Looking for a new channel for his personal and musical growth, he spent some time in Berlin and Paris (and in bewteen singing on cruise ships), before arriving in London in 1996 where, fascinated by the music scene it offered and a chance to further his music training he decided to move there. He studied at Thames Valley University and Trinity College of Music. His versatility allowed him to work on a variety of music, from classical to contemporary and jazz, under tutors Eddie Harvey, Tina May, Linda Hirst.
His versatility has allowed him to sing and perform with a diverse assortment of groups in both music and theatre. Highlights include performances with international groups 'London Musici', 'Fibonacci Sequence', Apollo Chamber Orchestra, Joglaresa; in jazz he sings both with his trio and as ‘sideman’, singing old and new jazz and pop standards and original compositions, in venues and festivals across the country, including the Brighton and Edinburgh Festivals with legendary bass player Herbie Flowers; In theatre he has worked with director Peter Hall and composer Harrison Birtwistle (‘Bacchai’- National Theatre-UK and EU tour); ‘Theatre Rites’(Lyric Hammersmith and UK tour); ‘Rhythm of the World’ (Australia , New Zealand and Indonesia) ‘Lost & Found Orchestra’ (UK and EU tour).
