Biography of Nick Sorensen
Nick Sorensen (alto and soprano sax) is a creative and lyrical saxophonist with a mesmerizing tone; he is equally at home playing jazz standards, free improvisation and contemporary compositions.
Since 2006 he has worked with the virtuoso pianist John Law performing music from the standard jazz and popular repertoire alongside their own compositions. They have developed a unique and compelling rapport; audiences describe their extraordinary level of interplay as “enthralling”. Their debut CD “The Journey Home” was released in 2010.
In recent years Nick has performed with Tony Roberts, Ray d’Inverno, Rod Paton, Jason Rebello, David Newton, Karen Street and Pee Wee Ellis (with whom he has written a book called ‘Passing It On’). He is featured on Emma Harris’s ‘Love Life’ CD and Pat Thomas’s ‘Four Compositions for Orchestra’ with the Oxford Improvisers.
His latest project, ‘The Vespertine Quartet’, specializes in devising performances for parish churches.
