Recently described by writer and broadcaster Alyn Shipton as a ‘brilliant young pianist’ Paul Edis leads ‘one of the most accomplished and original bands to emerge in recent years’ Paul Bream, Jazz North East. 'a skilled composer as well as a fine pianist...he is a player of immense promise.' Ian Mann, The JazzMan
‘An enjoyable debut CD by a pianist who has some compositional flair and a tidy north East of England-based band that plays imaginatively within a coolly expressive post-bop context' Jazzwise ***
‘clear strength in compositional creativity; it never falters anywhere’ Josh Jennings, Jazzshaped
Featuring 12 original compositions penned by Edis and saxophonist Graeme Wilson, There Will Be Time has been played on BBC Radio and made the list for the 2012 Jazzwise Album of the year.
Graham Hardy (trumpet) Graeme Wilson (sax) Chris Hibbard (trombone) Mick Shoulder (bass) and Adam Sinclair (drums) complete the line-up of ‘first rank’ North East musicians. This is a classic modern jazz line-up, reminiscent of such great bands as Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and it's clear that the whole sextet are steeped in that tradition, but with enough of a contemporary edge to keep the whole thing fresh. |
