23/07/2007 Ian Mann 24dash.com | “Another beautiful album from this quiet virtuoso of the acoustic guitar. Stoysin's signature acoustic guitar sound is at the heart of the music, his crystalline notes drawing out the full beauty of the folk based melodies, and his pastoral style harbours hidden strengths. The immaculate quality of the recording captures these qualities superbly.
This is a regular working band and the interaction between the three musicians is excellent throughout.
There is real musical intelligence behind this relaxing, Sun drenched music.”
Ian Mann, 24dash.com (4 **** rating)
| 02/04/2007 Eddie Russell, Country Eastern / Outlaw For Peace Radio Shaw, Columbus, Texas, USA. | "A wonderful new album with a charge of radiance somewhere between spring flowers and summer shade....' Quiet Stream Breaks The Rocks ' , the latest effort by the Branco Stoysin Trio...is yet another ear-pleasing masterpiece." Eddie Russell, Country Eastern / Outlaw For Peace Radio Show, Columbus, Texas, USA.
| 02/04/2007 Lord Litter, Radio Maraby, Germany. | Total unique warm universe of sound somewhere between folk .. jazz ... but avoiding all *I've heard that before* elements. Unique music/art is what today's culture of quick, loud insanity needs - and I guess there is only one Branco Stoysin on planet Earth .. and really meaning it“!! Lord Litter, Radio Maraby, Germany.
| 29/03/2007 Chris Parker, VORTEX, London. | Branco Stoysin Trio, 5th new album “QUIET STREAM BREAKS THE ROCKS” on Sun Recordings label.
Full review by Chris Parker, “Jazz at Ronnie Scott’s” and “Vortex”, March 2007:
“This is the fifth album from Branco Stoysin, a self-taught guitarist born in Novi Sad in the former Yugoslavia, and like his others, it showcases not only his extraordinary yet entirely natural-sounding technique but also his wide-ranging musical taste, which embraces everything from bop (the album concludes with a rousing exploration of the changes of 'Confirmation') to Brazilian and Yugoslav traditional music.
His rhythm section, Leslee Booth on 6-string electric bass and drummer Buster Birch, provide discreet, supple but surprisingly powerful support throughout, but it is Stoysin's filigree delicacy – particularly on the plangent traditional melodies that constitute the centrepiece of the album, but also on his originals, whether they're minor blues ('Miss D'), solo features ('Amber') or absorbing multi-tempo pieces (the title-track and its successor, 'Where a River Meets the Sea') – that marks him out as one of the most skilful, lyrical acoustic guitarists on the current scene.
His ear for an affecting melody is faultless, and the fluency of his improvisations ditto; this is an unalloyed treat throughout its 52 minutes and comes warmly recommended.” C.P.
| 24/03/2007 Steve Becker, GREAT GUITARS, BBC Lancashire | "Branco Stoysin is so pleasingly distinctive! The blending of jazz, fingerstyle and eastern folk might seem unlikely, but Branco pulls it off effortlessly: each element retains its character while finding a new combination voice. The tunes, like his guitar playing, are sweet, subtle and impressive. Admirably, Branco continues to plough his own musical furrow and more power to his elbow for that."
Steve Becker, ‘Great Guitars', BBC Radio Lancashire.
