Lucia Ianniello Bb and C trumpet, flugelhorn, effects and objects; Diana Torti voice; Giuseppe La Spina guitars; Paolo Tombolesi keyboards, acoustic bass and percussion.

“Maintenant” is Lucia Ianniello’s first CD as a bandleader: although a jazz trumpeter by training, she is very open to experimentation in other musical areas, including the creation of multidisciplinary projects.
This album is a work of auditory images, atmospheres and soundscapes, some visionary, with particular exploration of melody and timbre. Extended passages of collective improvisation are conceived as contrapuntal layering of sounds.

The quartet offers a ‘sound chamber’ obtained, despite a significant presence of electronic instruments and effects, through the trumpeter’s arrangements, characterized by the absence of drums and the use of the instrumental voice without text.
However, the underlying philosophy of this work is expressed, beyond the stylistic and formal aspects, in an effort to focus on the urgency of expression and the human relationship between the musicians, away from any form of complacency.

Decisamente consigliato.

A suggestive introduction of the piano by Paolo Tombolesi, dreamy and with progressive accents, then the trumpet Lucia Ianniello depicting concentric spirals melodic, sometimes dubbed the voice of Diana Torti. It is the magical start of Maintenant, the first disc as leader of Lucia Ianniello just out to Slam. A sweep of the synthesizer, and the atmosphere becomes thinner. This time the trumpet is with effects, the most obvious appeal is Jon Hassell, and breathing becomes large, the music becomes the rhythm of the heartbeat of Mother Earth.

The disc scale and blends different sensitivities: melody, electronics, musical research. And if Maintenant, first song and title track of the album, is a soundscape rarefied and modern, with Ballad for Samuel (Horace Tapscott) returns to the classic duo piano and trumpet, and then turn toward the contemporary with Our Summer, with Paul Tombolesi counterpoint to the trumpet Ianniello, in an ongoing mutual chase of the two soloists.

Still rarefied atmosphere in Other, piece signed by leaders, with the vocal style of Diana Torti to guide the flow of sound, counterpointed by the trumpet of Lucia Ianniello. Both epic and an elegant gait, the two tracks written by Jesse Sharps, with the guitar of Giuseppe La Spina drawing with stretch Impressionist (Desert Fairy Princess), and with the opening moments and total improvisation (Desert Fairy Princess and Peyote Song No. . III), while Sicily is a poignant tribute to the homeland of Giuseppe La Spina, who died shortly after the disc was recorded.

The last track, Préliminaires Amoureux (Lucia Ianniello), closes with grace all the work, leaving the mouth of the listener a good flavor and fragrance, to a flat well balanced and seasoned with taste. Definitely recommended.

Once again, the SLAM label introduces to a new cast of fine Italian jazz musicians.
Ms. Ianniello plays trumpets, leads the quartet and wrote all of the arrangements here. She was deeply inspired by pianist/composer/multi-bandleader Horace Tapscott and the music of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. Ms. Ianniello wrote half of the pieces here and covers a song by Mr. Tapscott as well as two by Arkestra member Jesse Sharps. The title track is an original by Ms. Ianniello and opens this disc. It is a lovely, laid back ballad of sorts and features some sublime, spacey flugelhorn, exquisite piano and minimal sensuous vocal sounds. The two long pieces here were written by Jesse Sharps who worked with Mr. Tapscott and has a fine disc out on the Nimbus West label. Both songs are magical, enchanting and elegant works. The superb, lush trumpet tone by Ms. Ianniello and superb, haunting sound of Mr. La Spina's guitar are featured on both. Keyboardist Paolo Tombolesi plays both piano and some organ, occasionally soloing bot mostly playing his parts with sly, sumptuous grace. The enchanting sound of Ms. Ianniello's trumpets or flugelhorn permeate this entire effort and show she is a force to be reckoned with.
Like the late, great Kenny Wheeler she shows great promise for a long career to come. - Bruce Lee Gallanter,

It is very special this disc signed by Lucia Ianniello, on trumpet and flugelhorn, with electronic effects and various objects. With her voice to Diana Torti, Giuseppe La Spina on guitar and Paul Tombolesialle keyboards, bass and percussion. There is a lot of experimentation and a discreet use of electronic effects and keyboards, but the atmosphere is the same magic thanks to the intervention of the dreamy leader and the voice in the background that accompanies her sorties. The two women in the group communicate sympathetically, very nice trio together at the piano on which Sicily seems perfectly tuned. The song is the guitarist, who died suddenly and present in five of the proposed pieces. His presence is a remarkable solos that fit well in the original, project. The album is full of evocative atmosphere thanks to an excellent interaction between the musicians and the sounds generated by the computer: the encounter between humans and machines work, sometimes remembering pioneers such as trumpeter Jon Hassell. Some moments seem to visionaries like Maintenant the opening, with the trumpet of Ianniello to create a dialogue with the bass guitar, piano and synthesizers, until arriving the vocals of Diana Torti to make it all even more impressive. The long passage, more than eleven minutes, fades with l'assolo acoustic guitar before all are found close together for a performance by the unusual strength. The trumpet player and leader he studied the music of the pianist and composer Horace Tapscott Californian, its many compositions has sceltoBallad for Samuel, performed together at the piano, a duo melancholy and showing the "human" of Ianniello, able to express feelings beyond dell'ipertecnicismo fashionable today. Desert Fairy Princess is another long track, almost twelve minutes, Jesse Sharps, saxophonist and composer of the Pan Afrikan Peoples' Arkestra where Tapscott militant as a pianist. And yet Peyote Song No. III by the same author, almost fourteen minutes inventions sound, shows the detail of the group feeling for the music of the big bands in California, but also the creativity with which he approached those compositions. The unusual formation, the sounds from the room, the presence of synthesizers, The absence of drums, the vocals, the rich improvisations and the ability of leaders to manage complex architectures that unfold in long performances make this disc something special. Preliminaires Amoureux is the final track, composed by Ianniello, here are acoustic instruments to prevail, the quartet presents no synthesizers and shows its chamber and more refined, elegant and persuasive
