Biography of Roger Garfitt

Roger Garfitt is a poet with a particular interest in collaborating with artists and musicians. Besides his work with Nikki Iles and John Williams, he works with Gareth Rees-Roberts on guitar and with Sue Harris on the hammered dulcimer. A freelance writer since he won the Gregory Award in 1974, he has been Poetry Critic of London Magazine, Editor of Poetry Review, Writing Fellow at UEA and Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Swansea University. His Selected Poems is published by Carcanet and Border Songs, his history of the Marches in twelve short lyrics, is engraved on glass in the Shropshire Archives. Jazz plays an important part in his memoir, The Horseman's Word (Cape, 2011), which was shortlisted for the PEN/Ackerley Prize and is now a Vintage paperback.
