Biography of Joan Viskant
Born and brought up in Chicago, Joan Viskant began singing professionally in the clubs of her home town, before relocating first to France and then to London.
Continuing her vocal career throughout Europe, she received encouragement from Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, as well as the respect of many influential jazz musicians, including Herbie Hancock, Ray Charles and Benny Carter.
Since moving to the UK, Joan has appeared at a number of international festivals with Emmy Award winner John Altman's big band, The Cotton Club Orchestra with Keith Nichols in a tribute to Billie Holiday, and the Ray Gelato Giants Of Jive.
Joan has recorded two albums ready for release - a big band and strings album of classic standards with the John Altman Orchestra and a quintet jazz album, both of which have been previewed on Jazz FM, BBC Radio 2 and Sky Digital.
Continuously in demand for film, TV and radio work, both on screen, including 'No Bananas' for BBC TV and behind the scenes, including TV commercials for Gillette, Kronenbourg, BT, GMTV and McDonalds.
Joan has provided vocal performances for a number of movies, and helped to prepare the material for Jane Horrocks' award winning role in the movie 'Little Voice'.
