Biography of Neverland
Hans Koller - pianist, graduated from Middlesex University with a first class BA Hons music degree. In 1997 Hans received an Arts Council award to record his contemporary nine-piece ensemble CD Magic Mountain (33WM109). Also featuring contributions from Dave and Stuart, the album was released to critical acclaim in 1998. Hans has also toured with Martin Speake and worked with saxophonist Stan Sulzmann. He obtained a Masters in Ethnomusicology from the School of Oriental and African Studies in 199 and currently teaches jazz composition on the BMus jazz course at Birmingham Conservatoire.
Saxophone player, Rob Townsend, is a graduate of Middlesex University, and currently teaches there on the jazz course. Apart from a long association with Hans Koller, he performs regularly with the Hungry Ants and has worked with Django Bates and Mark Lockheart.
Bass player, Dave Whitford, has performed, toured and recorded with US trombonist Ephie Resnick and London based musicians Julian Arguelles, Liam Noble, Pete King and recently toured with Martin Speake. he won the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award in 1999 for his unique contribution to Neverland.
Stuart Laurence (drums and marimba) has performed with the English and London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kurt Mazur in concerts with Anne-Sophie Mutter. He has also worked extensively in Europe and done broadcast recordings with Kenny Wheeler, Stan Sulzmann, the London Jazz Orchestra and Chris Biscoe.
