David Gordon: harpsichordist, composer and arranger

David has played harpsichord with several leading baroque orchestras, most recently with the Academy of Ancient Music and also with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the European Baroque Orchestra. He has given baroque recitals with many soloists, including Evelyn Nallen and Andrew Manze. He plays jazz piano with Jacqui Dankworth, the David Gordon Trio, the Theo Travis Quartet, the Christian Garrick Quartet, New Noakes Internationals and Gerard Presencer, amongst many others. With a strong classical training, David works as recitalist and improvising concert pianist and as a pianist for dance groups, e.g., the Royal Academy of Dancing and the London Contemporary Dance School.

David has composed for piano, harpsichord, recorder, jazz and chamber ensembles. “The Alchemist and the Catflap” was a prize-winning composition in 2000 and had over 80 performances within a year of its premiere. David is also pianist and tango arranger for the Gypsy/Tango band “Zum” and gives frequent lectures, workshops and lessons on jazz, improvisation, composition and piano and recorder playing.
