Dominic Ashworth continues to shine as one of the finest jazz guitarists in Britain.
His debut trio CD, "PORTRAITS", is an intimate and highly personal album originally recorded for and dedicated to those who have touched his life. Playing the nylon-stringed classical guitar, Dominic performs alongside Chris Dodd (bass) and Nic France (percussion), with guest appearances from Josefina Cupido (percussion).
"PORTAITS" features some of Dominic’s original tunes, jazz standards by Billie Holiday, Jobim, Ellington, Monk, Ibrahim, Pastoris, Bernstein and a breathtaking version of Gabriel Faure’s "Pavane". This is a special album you’ll want to share with those close to you.

Reviews |
07/01/2004 John Etheridge, Musician Magazine | "The sound of the nylon-strung classical guitar is so instantly appealing it’s surprising jazz guitarists don’t spend more time with it. This beautifully executed album features the instrument exclusively. Quite often when listening to a guitar album I long for changes of texture and sound but as soon as i heard the opening few bars of Dominic’s tasteful, stylish and sensitive playing, I was hoping he’d stay with the same guitar all the way through- and he does. There’s no lack of variety of repertiore however. Two charming originals- particularily Song for Ross, a lovely version of Maria, township jazz on Soweto and Three Views of a Secret are all highlights. Derek Nash’s engineering brings out the sonority of Dominic’s guitar beautifully. Praise too to Nic France and Chris Dodd for complementing the leader in an understated but muscular fashion". | 06/01/2004 Digby Fairweather. | "Take a faultless technique harnessed to a monumental gift for creative construction; add a keleidoscopic musical span, and you have a few of the reasons why Dominic Ashworth is the greatest new guitarist in British jazz". |
