Biography of David Johnston

Winner of a ‘Best Piano’ award in a Jazz Journal International competition David Johnston plays with both big bands and small groups and as a teacher of Jazz and Composition. David works with many of the top names in British Jazz today including Tony Coe, Art Themen, Don Weller, Mark Nightingale, Dave O`Higgins, Alan Ganley, Lee Gibson & Steve Waterman.

David’s trio is completed by Nick Pugh on double bass and Sam Price on drums. Both of these fine young players perform on a recent recording 'The Valley Of The Dead Cat' which has been highly acclaimed and broadcast on Humphrey Lyttleton's 'Best Of Jazz' programme.

Tony Woods studied at Keele University and after at Leeds College of Music, winning prizes for saxophone and outstanding
performance graduating with a First with Distinction. In 1986 he won first prize at the Dunkirk International Jazz Fest. In 1988 he attended the Guildhall School of Music as a post-graduate student studying with John Hare and Jean Toussaint and playing in the Guildhall Jazz Band, the 1989 BBC Big Band and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Tony works regularly as a session musician at London's major studios and leads his own band The Tony Woods Project.
On this CD he appears on every track.
