In pre-orders alone Stacey Kent’s new album was number one on the Amazon chart. No surprise for an artist whose albums sell over 100,000 copies and who tops the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

‘In Love Again features high-class material delivered with emotional depth and clarity. Her exceptional vocal control is excellent and so is her handling of the lyrics. Many of the finest melodies from the pen of Richard Rodgers were graced by the audacious and witty lyrics of Lorenz Hart and, in a song like "Manhattan", Miss Kent handles the internal rhymes and sophisticated mood with aplomb. In contrast she enters with feeling into the simpler, more evocative ambience of "It Never Entered My Mind" aided by a haunting tenor solo by Jim Tomlinson...Good jazz singers are few and far between and one as outstanding as Stacey Kent is not to be missed.’ says Graham Colombé on Amazon. The world loves love songs as it always has - beautiful songs beautifully sung.

Stacey Kent is arguably the best vocalist around, acclaimed the world over. It’s fitting that millions have fallen in love listening to her voice as her own love story could come straight out of a film. A tennis star as a kid, she decided to quit the game; high flying academic career diverted to music after falling in love with British sax man Jim Tomlinson become international star. Stacey is now married to that man who convinced her to stay in England, has homes in London and New York and some famous friends, Bill Gates and Clint Eastwood among them. More importantly are the legions of fans who discovered these classic songs through such an engaging singer - the sheer youth of people coming to Stacey Kent's sell-out shows never ceases to amaze. In the golden age of the Great American Songbook, the outstanding partnership of Richard Rodgers with Lorenz Hart was rivalled only by his equally successful collaborations with Oscar Hammerstein II.

Oscar had this to say about the great composer: ‘In his chosen field of light dramatic music, Rodgers’ work is never tentative or indefinite. It is romantic, funny or sad according to the situation for which it was written. His melodies are clean and well defined.’ From Carousel to the King & I, the tunes of Richard Rodgers are timeless. 2002 is the centenary of the composer’s birth and the release of ‘In Love Again’ is the first of many events, including musicals, TV specials and radio series, that will celebrate his life. Whether the thirteen songs here by Stacey have lyrics by Oscar or Larry Hart, the inescapable fact is that they are all jewels. Stacey’s carefully conceived collection of just some of the Richard Rodgers classics all receive trademark Kent interpretations which the melodies and lyrics deserve. Rodgers and Hart and Hammerstein would have approved.
