'Epicentre' is pianist Geoff Eales's seventh album as a solo artist and is the culmination of an intense period of musical growth that began with the release of his first solo album, 'Mountains of Fire', in 1999. The CD represents a sea-change from his previous albums, the focus here being on both composition and free-wheeling improvisation rather than the re-working of standard material. The album draws its inspiration form a rich variety of sources - the European classical tradition, blues, gospel, folksong, latin, free-jazz, all the various elements moulded into Eales's highly personal musical language. Before launching a career as a solo artist Geoff Eales was a member of the BBC Big Band (for four years) and he was one of the most sought-after pianists on the London studio scene, working with such luminaries as Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin, Jerry Goldsmith, Nelson Riddle and Billy May. Since then he has performed at many of the world's leading jazz clubs such as the Blue Note Clubs in Osaka and Fukuoka, New York's Birdland, The Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, Louisville's Jazz Factory and London's Ronnie Scott's. He has also played at major festivals including Cork, Brecon and Edinburgh.
