The album was originally conceived as a tribute to the great trombonist JJ Johnson. Like many things it evolved into something quite different. I hope that some of JJ's spirit remains. The use of strings was an experiment and brings me back to my days working in classical orchestras but the feeling, I hope, remains very contemporary jazz. It was a great pleasure to work alongside such great musicians. Tim Garland is well known in the UK and is always a real pleasure to work with. Leo Tardin is an amazing young Swiss pianist and winner of the very first Montreux International Jazz piano competition. Norbert Pfammatter is a legend in Switzerland having added his amazing percussion to many Internationally known stars.
