Gricer focuses on sounds, rhythm and tempo, and inhabits the spaces in-between, bypassing genres, and dodging clichés. The 12 compositions on this debut, self-titled album create their own dark dynamic through a combination of rock minimalism (Staccato, Folk, Land), austere near-ballads (Slow, Taut), improvisation (Tiles), pure sound (Semiconductor Archive or Longtone), and bold use of space.
Gricer is David Maleed (Mehead) composer, electric guitars, Hammond B3 organ, glockenspiel, environmental sounds, clapping, with Subs Subassa (The Sea, Dave Howard) bass guitar, electronic tone Dylan Howe (The Dylan Howe Quintet, Nick Cave, Gilad Atzmon) drums Jay Phelps (Andrew Hill, Tomorrow’s Warriors) trumpet, and Jenny Adejayan (Antonio Forcione) cello.
