Biography of European Jazz Trio
In 1999 Bill Charlap formed The European Jazz Piano Trio, with renowned Irish drummer Stephen Keogh and the fast rising British bass player Mark Hodgson.
The trio immediately formed an exciting and creative alternative to Bill's New York based trio featuring Peter and Kenny Washington and have gone on to make several successful European tours and enjoy a constantly growing European audience.
In 2000 The European Jazz Piano Trio recorded their first CD, 'Gift' (Ashbrown Productions), with George Sherring's guitarist Louis Stewart.

Bill Charlap's career began with the Legendary Saxophonist Gerry Mulligan's band of the mid 80s.
In the early 1990s Bill was invited to join The Phil Woods quintet featuring Tom Harrell, with whom he contiues to tour the world and make many fine albums.
In 1996 Bill began recording for the Criss Cross record label with whom he recorded four successful CDs including the critically acclaimed 1999 release 'All Through The Night'.

Bill Charlap’s career has taken a enormous leap forward over the past year. He has been recording and performing with Jazz legends such as Tony Bennett, Jim Hall, Phil Woods, Benny Carter and Shirley Horn.
In fact, Bill was recently asked to play at Carnegie Hall, in duo, with Tony Bennett to excellent critical reviews.
It seems that, finally, Bill Charlap is being acknowledged as one of the world finest Piano players.
