Biography of Jones O'Connor Group
Described by Jazzwise magazine as “Excellent forward thinking Brit Jazz, Hip and Unpredictable with taste to spare", the Jones O’Connor Group are one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the increasingly vital Jazz scene in Wales.
Formed in Cardiff 2004, the group’s consists of Richard Jones (Guitar), Paul Jones (Keys),Chris O'Connor (Double Bass) and Mark O'Connor (Drums).
As much at home with post rock pioneers as they are with the modem wave of jazz innovators, the band moves freely between genres and has drawn comparison with bands such as Jaga Jazzist, Polar Bear and Chicago based artists such as Tortoise and Jeff Parker.
They perform at established jazz events throughout the U.K such as the Brecon Jazz Festival (voted one of the highlights 06) as well as cutting edge music venues specialising in new music from across the board.
Their genre spanning sound and intense live musical interplay has generated a core cult following which is quickly gaining momentum. Receiving praise from audiences and critics alike for their vibrant live performances and imaginative music, the band have reached audiences beyond the jazz scene with a passion for musical innovation and raw energy.
Their latest album "A Crow for every Crow" has been described as "fresh material, not some faded replica of a past that won’t return...confirmation of the current richness of young talents in British progressive jazz" Massimo Ricci -Touching Extremes
Their music is atmospheric, witty, rich, cinematic, playful, and combines retro – electronics with futuristic sensibilities.
