"An Introduction to the Story of Spedy Sponda''was commissioned by the Women's Playhouse Trust with funds from the Jerwood Foundation in January 2002, was performed five times at the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station and broadcast on BBC Jazz on 3. A solo project, Oren Marshall uses the tuba to trigger electronic sounds with the aid of a selection of effects pedals and on one track plays five tubas simultaneously using pieces of rubber pipe to connect the tubas to one another. each section was recorded as live and the result is quite astonishing. When asked to describe his sound Oren replied contemporary classical ambient space heavy metal experimental improvised folk blues. |
