Appearances by Panacea |
Trust, the second CD from Robert Mitchell's Panacea is a powerful collection of original songs - both worded and wordless. This is delivered through fabulous performances from all the instrumentalists – demonstrating an ease and range from a group with a strong depth of vision. There is also a beautiful set of very special guests from the UK, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Canada who span both generations and cultures. The songs move between the themes of love (A Heart (full of u ) and The Thief of Dimensions), lullaby (Ocean (In a Small Hand), nomadic existance (Shukran - also a dedication to the great pianist Bheki Mseleku), trust (Trust!!!!), change (Breath On The Mirror), regret (If These Walls Could Speak Out), and peaceful renewal (The Brink), as well as the beauty of an ancient landscape (Cotopaxi).
The inspirations also come from trips to South America and Africa, looking back, moving on, missing out on love and most definitely being in love and being loved!
All the tunes on this collection are originals. There is also a marked use of a variety of keyboards (wurlitzer piano, rhodes, and various synths, as well as grand piano) and laptop technology stable enough to be completely reliable! The use of sampling has also been a seamlessly integrated. The group also feature two new regular fountains of joy - the young Tom Mason on electric and acoustic bass, and simply exquisite Deborah Jordan on vocals. |
Reviews |
19/09/2005 The Guardian | "He is, however, a brilliant pianist with a thoroughly individual sound and approach; every year he seems to get closer to realising his dream of what all his favourite idiomatic ingredients might perfectly mix down to." |
