Biography of Jon Opstad
Jon Opstad is a London-based composer. In 2004 and 2007 he released two albums of original jazz compositions, 'Still Picture' and 'Interpretations', each receiving strong praise in the jazz press. 'Still Picture' (2004) drew on influences including Norwegian jazz and artists associated with the ECM label and included strong contributions from musicians including pianist Tom Rogerson (Three Trapped Tigers) saxophonist Simon Cosgrove and bassists Chris Hill and James Opstad. 'Interpretations' (2007) drew more heavily on influences such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and was recorded with a seven-piece lineup of top London-based jazz musicians: Nick Smart (trumpet, flugelhorn); Simon Cosgrove (soprano saxophone); James Allsopp (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet); Liam Noble (piano, fender rhodes); Justin Quinn (guitars); James Opstad (double bass) and Jon Opstad (drums). Since 2009 Jon has worked predominantly in composing music for film and television productions. Recent credits in 2013 include scoring the 'White Bear' episode of Charlie Brooker's acclaimed Channel 4 drama 'Black Mirror'. More information can be found at Jon's website.
