If any young singer today recreates the vocal depth and class of the greats such as Matt Monro, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett et al; it is Matthew Ford. At 34, he is an experienced Big Band singer, touring with The Syd Lawrence Orchestra throughout the UK and Europe for the past five years, and now finally releases his debut album. The CD is effectively a “two-sided” album; 8 swinging tracks for an upbeat mood, followed by 8 mellow, introspective songs for more reflective moments. The band set-up is different for almost every track, with the arrangers James Pearson and Colin Skinner exercising their versatile imaginations and fully utilising the talents of the musicians - who are in as much of a collaborative role as a supportive one.
The Mood I’m In is an exploration of Matthew Ford’s vocal depth and interpretation, with fantastic new arrangements from some of Britain’s finest contemporary arrangers and musicians. Special guest on the album is Jim Mullen, the UK jazz guitar giant who brings an extra finesse to a very musical CD. Samples can be heard at www.divingduck.co.uk
