Biography of Graeme Scott

Graeme attended the Scottish National Jazz Institute under the direction of Saxophonist Tommy Smith between the years 1995-1998.

In 1999 Graeme was a finalist in the Scottish Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition and in 2000 he was presented with the Johnny Dankworth Award for the Most Promising Young Talent on the live broadcast of the BBC Big Band Competition.

After graduating from the Strathclyde University BA in Applied Music course with First Class Honours he attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where he gained a PGDip and MMus in Classical Guitar Performance.

Graeme has performed in numerous masterclasses taken by such greats as Carlos Bonnel, Paul Gregory, Craig Ogden, Gary Ryan, Scott Tennant, The Newman and Oltman Duo and Manuel Barrueco.

Influencential players are John Williams, Manuel Barrueco, Pepe Romero, Scott Tennant, Joe Pass, Martin Taylor, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, Peter Bernstein, John Scofield, Jim Hall...among others.

He has appeared live and on record with many of Scotland's top jazz musicians and performs regularly with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.

With the SNJO Graeme performed the premier of Tommy Smith's arrangement of the Gershwin classic 'Rhapsody in Blue' at the London and Glasgow Jazz Festivals and was the featured soloist in the more recent project- SNJO plays the music of Steely Dan (Glasgow and London Jazz Festivals 2008).

With his own quartet he performed at the Dundee Guitar Festival on a number of occassions and regularly plays at the Glasgow Jazz Festival.

Graeme has appeared on the Jazzhouse show on Radio Scotland with Trumpeter Ryan Quigley and previously did a similar broadcast with Trumpeter Tom MacNiven.
