Biography of Emma Blake

With a vocal background covering blues, soul, folk, and opera, Emma first emerged on the jazz scene in 1997, and has steadily built up a solid reputation as an exciting, sassy and risk-taking singer. Since she first sang at the The London Jazz Bistro, she has performed with some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians including Stan Tracey, Gareth Williams, Jonathan Gee, Geoff Eales, Andy Cleyndert, Tristan Maillot, Clark Tracey, and Eriko Ishihara.

Emma has regularly appeared with her quartet at The National Theatre, Quaglino’s and London’s famous Vortex Jazz Club, she has also performed at The Savoy, PizzaExpress, Mezzo and also Ronnie Scott’s, where she was a special guest artist for Amnesty International’s jazz benefit night for the victims of the World Trade Centre attack on 9/11. Continuing her work for charity, in 2004 Emma performed with the Simon Brown Trio at the Norwich Playhouse for a Jazz and Cabaret gala in aid of Cancer Relief. She recently reprised her association with the Simon Brown Trio, when she was invited to perform at Lord Montagu’s summer party on the Beaulieu Estate.

In September 2005, she appeared with Christine Tobin and Norma Winstone in Jazz on the Terrace’s September Song Festival in Dublin, a new festival to “celebrate some of Jazz's finest contemporary female vocalists and their wonderful ability to improvise and interpret the standard”.

A member of the Questors Theatre and former child television actress, Emma starred in the BBC TV serialisation of Heidi with Nicholas Lyndhurst and Dame Flora Robson. She also appeared in Granada Television’s Adventures of Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett.
