Biography of Sally Doherty
Sally Doherty sings from a varied Jazz and Latin repertoire combining Brazilian bossa nova and samba, Cuban and Mexican boleros and beautiful material from the great American songbook. She sings the Latin songs in their original languages of Portuguese and Spanish. Her singing is both intimate and passionate. Most of the time she performs with Piero Tucci (piano and accordion), Colin Elliot (double bass) and Phil Johnson or Caroline Boaden (drums).
Her live work has involved performances as a guest vocalist with Peter King and Neil Yates and with Alan Barnes as well as opening for Cleo Laine and Alex Wilson. She performs at some great venues including The Sands in Gainsborough, The Cinnamon Club in Altrincham, the Hifi club in Leeds, Zeffirellis in The Lake District and also at some Festivals: Wigan International Jazz Festival, Marlborough Jazz Festival, Sheffield Jazz and Swing Festival.
As a singer songwriter she has worked with bands from other genres. Her works include five solo CDs of her own songs which have been distributed worldwide as well as singing and writing for Planet Funk who have enjoyed numerous top ten hits all over the world. With them she has performed extensively in Europe and Australia as well as on BBC Radio 1, MTV and Italian National TV and Radio.
