Biography of Guillermo Rozenthuler
Argentine vocalist-guitarist Guillermo -singer with award-winning G Atzmon and the Orient House Ensemble, brings together a powerful, evocative, refined take on contemporary songs from Argentina. The repertoire consists of originals and re-arranged traditional songs, combining elements of jazz improvisation with Amerindian and African folkloric roots. The vocal improvisations and the arrangements reflect the diversity that shapes the music from Argentina.
GUILLERMO ROZENTHULER
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Guillermo is a versatile vocalist, guitarist and composer. In 2003, Guillermo created Rioplatenses. a musical encounter of three South American UK-based musicians plus various international guests. Their music, lively and deep, is rooted in South American rhythms such as Argentine chacarera and huayno, Uruguayan candombe, Afro Peruvian lando and Brazilian samba and baiao. They appear regularly in London, performing Guillermo?s originals and their distinctly contemporary take on traditional South American folklore.
Guillermo moved to the UK in 2000 after more than 10 years performing and teaching in Buenos Aires, where he a grew his reputation as a jazz and Latin vocalist. Now based in London, he is part of several projects regularly touring Europe. He has now become one of the leading voices of tango in the UK, working regularly with his project, Rioplatenses, and tango bands Los Mareados and Copenaires. He's also the vocalist of the Orient House Ensemble, winner of the BBC Jazz awards.
Off stage Guillermo is committed to his work as a vocal coach and workshop leader. In 2005 he was invited as guest vocal coach to join the faculty of the Global Music Foundation.
