Biography of Alex Hutton

After a brief year studying music history and performing art in New York, Hutton decided to turn his focus fully to Jazz piano. and soon won the appraisal of the late Ronnie Scott who described Hutton as a ‘great British talent and a wonderfully natural pianist’.
Moving to London during the mid 90’s, Hutton won a full scholarship to the Guildhall school of music and drama and since that time has worked in almost every major venue around London, most notably Ronnie Scotts, The Savoy, The Ritz, Café de Paris and his favourite venue the 606 club.
Alex has recently performed a ‘history of jazz piano ‘ duet with Ronnie Scott’s house pianist at this years Steinway Festival. It is the different Styles of the piano that has always been an attraction and has led to performing music as diverse as Stride, Salsa, modern jazz, classical and pop
The ongoing theme of Hutton’s work is composition for piano trio. He has released 4 cd’s under his own name.
‘Cross That Bridge’(2006) ‘Songs From The Seven Hills’ (2008).Legentis (2012)
‘Magna Carta Suite’ (2015)

recent quotes - Magna Carta Suite
A Happy Hybrid (of jazz and classical) -The mixture seems quite natural. Alex Hutton’s suite is a distinguished example. The form of each brief movement reveals itself as it unfolds, in the classical manner, with much attention to tone and texture. But at the same time there’s an impetus and looseness to the performance that is pure jazz. Dave Gelly Observer 4/5 stars
as the musical empathy among the trio is powerful. Hutton is firmly on top of his disparate musical influences, and the project hangs together very well: it sounds like a suite. …a thing of great beauty. Hutton is a busy and inventive pianist, here accompanied by long-standing musical partners Yuri Goloubev on bass and Asaf Sirkis on drums.
Peter Jones – London Jazz Blog

“Magna Carta Suite” is a brave and ambitious album that includes some brilliant moments Ian Mann

their intuitive interplay is a potent feature to this recording, with this relationship being key to the colourful, dynamic and expressive content throughout the suite. Mike Gates – UK Vibe
