Mal Waldron piano, George Haslam baritone sax, tarogato. The first of 2 CDs recorded by this duo |
Reviews |
01/06/2000 Edwin Wilson | The Mal Waldron/George Haslam SLAM CD is a great recording. I hope this was not the last of their musical efforts. The only other one that comes close to this was the Waldron/Marion Brown Duo. There must be other recordings between these two. This is my first experience of listening to the music of George Haslam; there are not too many baritone sax players around with a truly good sound. The choice of Duke Ellington compositions was a wise one. No one interprets the genre of the Ellington idiom better than Mal and Haslam. This is one of my choices for jazz record of the year.
