Biography of Ruth Hammond
Ruth Hammond
In her first album release, 'All the Good Things' (Tenterhook Records), Ruth has written nine songs full of warmth and soulful simplicity. Her sound has an understated funkiness and her songs manage to sound retro and refreshingly modern at the same time. Her inspiration is drawn from the master songwriters: Sting, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan and James Taylor to name a few.
Ruth has worked extensively, playing saxophone, with the internationally successful pop group 'Morcheeba', touring with them and recording on their latest album 'Charango'.
She also plays the funky Hammond organ with The Forster-Hammond Trio, who are featured on the new Acid Jazz release ‘Hammond Street’ . Ruth has appeared on TV’s ‘Later – with Jools Holland’, played a weeklong residency at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London, UK) and was interviewed on Radio 4’s “Woman’s Hour” as a representative of up and coming female musicians.
