In 1937 Nat “King” Cole formed his first trio. Legend has it the band was supposed to be a quartet but the drummer failed to turn up. Whether or not this is true, the resulting trio of bass, guitar and piano was an instant success; it provides the ability to play more softly and the combination of two harmony instruments enables the to creation of unique musical textures and possibilities – the format was used for many years by legendary pianist Oscar Peterson.
The trio combines unique arrangements with virtuosity and swinging rhythm; played with infectious joie de vivre.

Nice and laid-back, very, very nice.
On the album they look good, they look like smiley happy lovely young men in ties, we like that.
Good selection of songs and I think a lot of people will really like this style.

...a very nice recording, nice easy feel to it.
I can see that would have quite a broad appeal to maybe people who aren’t necessarily hard-core jazz fans.
...nicely played and (Jonty is) obviously a great player.
(the instrumentation (bass/guitar/piano/vocals) is) a nice format. It’s not done that often without drums.
