Biography of LW4 Laurent Wyler Quartet

Born in 1959, Laurent WYLER studied piano at the Institute Jacques-Dalcroze in Geneva, then percussion with Nicol BERNARD at the CERMAC (Centre de Recherche des Musiques Antillaises et Caraïbes) in Martinique. Switched finally to the drums and earned a diploma in jazz drumming from the CPM (Conservatoire Populaire de Musique), Geneva, in 1990 taught by Mr. Raoul ESMERODE. In the early nineties, he was a member of the groups MONKEY’s TOUCH and VERTiGO. With the FANFARE du LOUP, Laurent played music for the theatre company of Jean-Louis HOURDIN, touring in France in 1994 and 1995. Since 1998, he is a member of the CIP ( Centre International de Percussion) where he teaches and has various collaborations. Then he works on his own material, composing pieces for solo drumming and for his trio that started to rehearse during summer 1999. The CD LW3 “ personal music” was released by the Swiss jazz label Altri Suoni (AS 074) in December 2000. Actually, Laurent WYLER plays with Jean-Yves POUPIN TRIO, Eduardo KOHAN’s CUARTETO. Laurent is involved in musical pedagogy, he is a co-organizer of the EPI (Espace de Pratique Instrumentale) in Carouge/Geneva, where he also teaches the drums. Plays Altrisuoni drums and uses Vater sticks.
