When late Urs Voerkel left us in 1999, I took his place in this trio. The mutual musical response was immediate -let me call it a blessed affair. We decided to work on the fragments by Urs, attracted by both their openness and their perfume of jazz. Now his compositions are seamlessly woven into the flow of our improvisations.

Urs Voerkel (1949-1999) was a pianist and composer. He began to play in the '70s with musicians such as Ir讥 Schweizer, Peter Kowald, Paul Lovens, Paul Rutherford, P.K.Frey and many others. Mainly interested in improvised music, he studied also the music of Thelonious Monk in a quartet named "Four In One" with Nathanael Su (as), Herbert Kramis (b) and Irène Schweizer on drums. His first work ever recorded was a solo performance from Berlin ("s'Gschaenk", LP FMP 0030), his last recording is called "Propinquity" (CD Intakt 057 with Schweizer, Scherrer, Walss, Lovens, Widmer).
