The Swiss drummer Marco Käppeli presents his new CD « Prisoner of Time » with his group « M.K. & The Even Odds ».
Käppeli’s band with the sax player Jürg Wickihalder and the two bassists Herbert Kramis (double bass) and Jan Schlegel (electric bass) offers a sort of « musical flight » through the history of jazz. Swing, be-bop, free jazz, fusion : the four musicians collect their examples here and there, mix them up and produce a surprising yet pleasant story.
Hot grooves, sizzling rhythms, freshly prepared and finished off with hot spices in the personal kitchen of the chef. This may sound both insolent and merry, and sometimes may even turn slightly violent. However it is with and ironic tone, and eventually it’s even touching : the four artists prove with this CD that you can be serious or cheerful and still express love. |
