4 in Perspective, a major album release from Village Life, is a collaboration between 4 very special and creative artists. An open-armed collaboration, instigated by Fred Hersch, between musicians of different generations and experience, 4 in Perspective first came together for a special performance for Oxford Contemporary Music in 1999. The result was an evening of intensity, warmth and humour. From the tragic "Out Someplace" to the enjoyment of "Memories of You", these improvising artists gave of their best. The event was recorded and this is the resulting CD. The combination of Norma Winstone's unique tone and seamless lyrics, Fred Hersch's sheer brilliance and sensitivity at the piano, the concentrated essence of Kenny Wheeler's highlighting and shading of the music and Paul Clarvis' emotional response to each shifting moment make 4 in Perspective a very special album.
