Biography of Martin Buergi

Born 1970 in Zurich, Switzerland, plays tenorsax;
- studied music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA;
- studies with Bill Pierce, Ed Tomassi and Hal Crook; stays in New York.
- performances with Leni Stern, Lincoln Goines, Anthony Cox and Marvin „Smitty“ Smit;
- returns to Switzerland;
- teaches at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Zurich;
- projects with various Swiss musicians including Theo Kapilidis, Tony Renold, Björn Meyer and others;
- performances and recordings with the two ongoing projects:
•Buergi-Preibisch Quartet with drummer Peter Preibisch
•Ueli Gasser‘s „sus 5“ a energetic Rock Band featuring Ueli Gasser on guitar
- moves back to Boston;
- studies in Big Band Arranging and Arranging for Strings;
- further studies with Hal Crook;
- performances with Drummer Joe Hunt
- receives award: Life Time Member of the Back Bay Brass Jazz Orchestra;
- publishes first own CD project ("The End of a Love Affair") featuring Dave Samuels (Spyro Gyra) on Vibes
- current project: The Latin Jazz Project, featuring Julio Barreto on drums, Franck Tortiller on vibes and Dudu Penz on bass.(CD "Tierra del Fuego")
