Biography of John Horler
John Horler has modestly graced the British jazz scene for a long time without any real recognition. His credentials as a musician are as impeccable as they are diverse. John comes from a musical family, his brother David being a well known trombonist who is often backed by John. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music, he has worked witha positive galaxy of American and British stars such as Art Farmer, Chet Baker, Zoot Sims, Kenny Wheeler, Peter King and Tommy Whittle. More recently he has been involved in a regular realtionship with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine and regular visitors to Ronnie Scott's well remember John gently but firmly guiding the rhythm section at the heart of a memorable reunion of the Dankworth Orchestra showing off British big band jazz at its best. John Horler is undoubtedly one of the most stylish pianists with a deep insight into his craft as well as an affection for other pianists past and present. We think it's about time to rub off some of that modesty. - David Marks.
John has worked in an impressive range of musical contexts: with Placido Domingo, Paul Tortelier, Barbra Streisand, Elton John and the London Symphony, London Philharmonic and Royal Ballet orchestras. His jazz work has included playing for Mel Torme, Zoot Sims, Pepper Adams, Shorty Rogers, Kenny Wheeler, Clark Terry and Chet Baker.
