Biography of Format A'3

Formed in 1998, Format A'3 is composed of:

Patrick Dufresne - drums, drum machines, effects
Faben Sevilla - double bass, bass, effects
Alexis Gfeller - piano, fender rhodes, synthesizer, organ

These three musicians live in the French speaking part of Switzerland but the trio played more than one hundred of times in Europe, in particular at international festivals such as:

Jazz Off Colmar Festival 2005, Défense in Paris 2002, Tremplin Jazz of Avignon 2002, Kulturtage of Dortmund 2004 and Montreux Jazz Festival 2000.
It also took part in Swiss tour "Diagonales" in January 2003. The also gave many concerts in Switzerland and took part in many radio broadcasts.

Format A'3 just released their fourth CD (on the label Altrisuoni) entitled PIRATE.

This album was recorded in one week at the Théâtre de L'Echandole in Yverdon-Les-Bains (CH). It was the occasion for enlarging our sound universe by integrating to the classical formula piano, double bass, drums and other instruments like the electric piano (Fender Rhodes), the electric bass, vintage drum machines or analogic synthesizers.

All the new compositions have been arranged spontaneously during the recording and all the instruments were played live without any re-recording nor editing. The purpose was to be able to recreate the new sounds on stage.
