Biography of Euan Burton

Euan Burton grew up in East Kilbride, Scotland where he took up Bass Guitar at the age of 10. After being introduced to Jazz in his teens Euan switched to Double Bass and went on to study at Birmingham Conservatoire recieving the Jazz Course Prize while in his second year and graduating from with a Bmus Jazz (Hons). While in Birmingham he studied with resident Bass tutor Arnie Somogyi and also with guest tutors Dave Holland, Dave Douglas, and Drummer Ari Hoenig.

After leaving Birmingham, Euan has since moved back to Scotland where he has become an active part of the scene performing regularly with musicians such as Tom Gibbs, Doug Hough, Graeme Scott, Konrad Wisznieski, Paul Towndrow, Tom MacNiven, Paul Harrison, Stu Brown, Alyn Cosker, Laura MacDonald, Steve Hamilton, Graeme Stephen, Tom Bancroft, Gina Rae, Cathie Rae and Kevin McKenzie. He has also performed in different situations with many musicians outside the Scottish scene such as Julian Arguelles, Gene Calderazzo and Ulf Wakenius. Demand for his skills has led to performances at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Islay, Lockerbie, Birmingham and Cheltenham Jazz festivals and in 2006 he took part in a live BBC recording session at the City Halls in Glasgow with the Konrad Wisznieski Quartet which was broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland’s “Jazz House,”.

Euan's debut album "Collective," was released in August 2006 featuring six of his original compositions for sextet. The group launched the album with a concert at The Lot in November and it has since received airplay on BBC Radio Scotland's "Jazz House." In 2007 Euan appeared live on the same programme with his own trio featuring Paul Towndrow and Tom Gibbs performing material from the album.

Along with a new album and a tour for his own group he is currently working with Stuart Brown’s Truth Serum Trio (alongside Paul Towndrow) and Tom Gibbs Bulgarian Project.
