BOLEROS, is a project that has been carefully prepared one year in advance and that D.Gouirand recorded on his second trip to Santiago de Cuba, where he blends his saxophone with the traditional and modern Bolero and nueva trova. Half of the material are cuban standards with vocals, rearranged inthe artist's fashion, including saxophone solos and some original string quartets.
"I go back to Santiago where I start rehearsals with the two rythm sections I had chosen: a traditionnel "son" group (guitar, bass, percussions & tres) and a trio piano-bass-percussions. After a few days, we are ready for the studio and start recording. The Alliance Française had invited us to give a concert in its gardens but Hermes, the guitarist, was ill, so we had to wait a few days. Then, the last night of my stay, Hermes had recovered and we can give the concert. That night we really found one another: Yaima - the singer - Hermes, Alexi Choven - the cello player - and myself. It might have been the peculiar spell of the spot, the warmth of the audience, the santiaguerra night, or whatever... But something happened and the audience felt it. That night, I decided to also record three of the "trova" songs that we did at the concert: Murmullo, Que sabes tu and Serà".
