Track Listing |

Pianoforte : are four of England’s finest improvising pianists from two generations; Howard Riley and Keith Tippett the two most important pioneers of free improvisation in the early sixties and Stephen Grew and Pat Thomas, two younger pianists with routes in classical music, electronica and jazz.
The CD displays the sonic wares from the four very individual pianists. This Sheffield recording is the first ever live recording (recorded live at Sheffield Universities Firth Hall, by Chris Trent) of this unique group of improvising pianists. Four musicians collaborate showing the sheer diversities of musical inventions, incorporating solo and duo situations. Each CD is accompanied by a specially commissioned individual painting by Stephen Grew.
