Biography of Ken Hyder
Ken Hyder : After years of combining Scottish traditional folk music with jazz on a batch of albums, Hyder turned his attention Eastwards in 1990 when he and saxophonist Tim Hodgkinson embarked on a huge tour of Russia. They worked and recorded with singers like Valentina Ponomareva and Sainkho Namtchylak and with musicians throughout Russia - and in particular, Siberia. Hyder later studied throat-singing and shamanic music on several field trips to Tuva, the Altai mountains and the area around Lake Baikal. He has also recorded with Tibetan and Japanese Buddhist monks. The duo Hoots and Roots with singer Maggie Nicols explores their Scottish roots. Vladimir Miller : Brought up in exile in the West, Miller now divides his time between Russia and London where he is based. He has toured Russia extensively both playing and teaching in conservatoires. He has led The Moscow Composers Orchestra on several tours and festival dates in Europe and has released CDs of the orchestra and of small group combinations including musicians like Vladimir Tarasov. He performed at the Free Music Production Berlin festival both solo and with Steve Lacy.
