Biography of Mark Bassey
Jazz trombonist Mark Bassey has been described as "a superb, witty player" (Dave Gelly); a highly versatile musician who’s playing can stretch from the "raucous" (John Fordham) to an "exquisite sound and perfect phrasing" (Brian Blain).
Based in Brighton, he can be heard playing up and down the country with Terry Seabrook, Julian Argüelles, Alan Barnes, Liane Carroll, Renato D’Aiello, Laura Zakian, Mbawula, Andy Panayi and in France with Denis Colin (Paris-based group).
He leads his own quartet ‘MARK BASSEY'S TELLING STORIES’ (CD just out) and also a quintet ‘BASSEY PLAYS BASIE’ drawing on some classic Basie repertoire. Both groups feature his inimitable trombone playing and also his vocal talents, from time to time ...
Mark has been involved with jazz education for many years, teaching trombone and running classes in harmony, improvisation, composition and arranging at many colleges including the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music, the City Literary Institute, and also the Jamey Aebersold jazz summer school.
