Biography of Trudy Kerr
Hailed as ʻone of the country's most polished singersʼ by The Times, Trudy moved to London in the 90's from her native Australia. Her first job was secretary to the legendary clarinettist Acker Bilk. She studied jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and in 1995 got her musical career break when Ronnie Scott offered her a week at his club.
Reunion is her 9th recording. Early CDs 'Sweet Surprise' and 'Trudy' are a mixture of standards and pop songs given a jazz treatment. She recorded 'Daydream' with American pianist Mulgrew Miller, followed by a Tribute to the music of Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan with an album 'My Old Flame' with guest Georgie Fame. 'Cloudburst' was dedicated to the instrumental jazz repertoire with Trudy's lyric to Coltrane's 'Moment's Notice' as well as music by Monk and Mingus.
'Jazz for Juniors' followed, an album introducing children to jazz; 'Deja Vu' with Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren came next; and in 2009 Trudy released 'Like Minds' a wonderful album with British jazz legend; pianist Michael Garrick. 'Like Minds' explores Ellington classics as well as showcasing Mike's original compositions.
Great names Trudy has performed and recorded with include Tom Cawley (Curios), Jan Lundgren (Swedish pianist), Mulgrew Miller (USA), Derek Nash, Dick Pearce, Geoff Gascoyne and Seb de Krom, Georgie Fame, Bob Dorough, Jamie Cullum and Ingrid James.
