Turner And The Thames featuring The Tim Whitehead Quartet

Coinciding with the release of Mike Leigh's award winning film about JMW Turner

Tim was commissioned to compose and perform “Turner And The Thames” , performed the new work on 23rd November 2013 at The Maritime Museum in Greenwich, and The Clore Ballroom ,Festival Hall, Southbank Centre by The London Jazz Festival .
This celebration of London's great river and Turner's lifelong relationship with it, is a journey through eight locations from which the great English artist painted, re-visited by Tim ,and filmed and recorded performing spontaneous improvisations there, from which Tim composed the music performed by him with Jonathan Gee on piano, Winston Clifford on drums, and Oli Hayhurst
on double bass.
Mike Dibb, whose biographic films of Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett for Channel 4 TV, captures the raw response of jazz improvisation to the river and the time.
